That did the trick, uninstall IMP using the install script to do the uninstall.
Check all the sound was working as expected and it was
Reinstall of imp and I have audio goodness coming out of my Arcade Machine again :)

Are the speakers connected through the audio jack? I'm not sure which one but do you need to/did you already select a different (besides HDMI) audio device in EmulationStation > [Start button] > Sound settings > Audio settings > Audio device?

If you replaced the CM with the 3b+ board, I wouldn't expect this to still work.

Sure, why not, but I don't see how it would work if you don't connect any of the audio outputs from the 3b+ to your device's speakers.

@blkhwks19 Got my sound back! Did a whole bunch of reserach and checked into some config.txt options and tried adding:

... and it seems to work now! Tried in my other tvs and back in this one and everything seems to work. Figured I'd report in case anyone else has spent the time and effort following my long attempt at fixing this =]

@kirk glad to help. Keep your other settings that you did too. All 3 keeps this as universal to tv's as possible.

It's actually a really bad idea to modify a linux text config file with a rich text editor.
The best option is to use a linux text editor (vim, nano, ...), or a simple MS notepad (or better, notepad++).
You're lucky only the sound was impacted :)
